We are pursuing to appoint an Early Intervention Teacher to our team to support our Wellington central and eastern suburbs. About our group and team Learning Support is a critical part of the Sector Enablement and Support Group in the Ministry. We are charged with leading the education sector in ensuring that tamariki and young people with additional learning needs are supported to achieve their full potential through education. Our Learning Support specialists work closely with families, wh?nau, caregivers, schools and early learning centres in English and M?ori medium settings alongside other agencies to maximise positive learning results and promote social inclusion About this function As an Early Intervention Teacher you will play a critical function in our region’s Learning Support team by doing the following: » Supporting transition points in the child’s learning pathway, such as transition into early childhood and to school as required » Providing high quality learning support in conformity wit h the guiding principles, strands, and goals of Te Wh?riki: Early Childhood Curriculum and Te Wh?riki a te Kohanga Reo » Strengthening the capcapability of those who are best placed to support the learning of tamariki » Assessing, collaboratively planning, supporting and monitoring the implementation of individual (or group) intervention plans About you To be prosperous you will need the following: » A Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood) » A post-graduate Diploma in Specialist Teaching: Early Intervention or the capability to attain this within four years of beginning in the position » A minimum of three years of early childhood teaching practice and a deep knowledge of child development, learning and behaviour » Sound knowledge and practice of Early Childhood Education policy and practice » A commitment to inclusion, and to ensuring tamariki’s presence, participation, and active learning within a range of early childhood settings » practice in working with tamariki with a range of developmental and behavioural needs » The capability to build strong relationships with tamariki, their wh?nau, educators and community agencies » Confidence in the development, implementation and monitoring of individual plans in partnership with wh?nau and professionals supporting tamariki » practice in co-developing, implementing and monitoring group interventions in partnership with other professionals to support groups of tamariki with learning needs » knowledge of the Treaty of Waitangi and capability to work in a way that delivers equitable results for M?ori » A full current driver’s licence is essential as travel is a requirement of the function Knowledge of tikanga and Te reo M?ori would be an advantage, given our commitment to the principles of The Treaty of Waitangi.
