About our group and team Te Mahau – Te Tai Whenua (Central) is a frontline group. Our frontline groups collectively provide leadership abilities and integrated services to the sector and others. This includes services such as learning support and education advice and regulation functions for schools and early learning services. We do this through coordinating and delivering responsive solutions in order to realise the local education priorities and goals. About this function You will work directly with senior leaders, school boards and Communities of Learning/K?hui Ako to achieve prosperous educational results for all students, with a particular focus on covering inequity and realising the potential of M?ori and Pacific students. You must be able to influence others and back this up with knowledge, skills and practice in improving student engagement and achievement. A part of this function will involve casework to support some of the most underprivileged and disengaged students in our community as well as supporting governance and strategic planning. About you You will have an appropriate tertiary qualification and recent practice in the New Zealand schooling sector and in your function, will bring skills in: » in-depth knowledge of factors influencing education performance and student achievement and participation, » knowledge of curriculum delivery and assessment » knowledge of recent legislative changes and the impact on schools » strong analytical skills and the capability to work with demographic data to determine needs, priorities and results » the capability to build and maintain prosperous relationships » practice in developing and implementing projects and in contract management » the capability to contribute to the regional goal for M?ori achieving and enjoying educational success as M?ori and to work confidently with schools and kura in both M?ori medium and mainstream contexts » the capability to provide support for diverse learners, their wh?nau and communities. You will also offer: » the capability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangatawhenuatanga » an knowledge of the relevance of identity, language and culture for M?ori, Pacific people and students who require additional learning support » prosperous practice working with school leaders, school Boards or Communities of Learning – K?hui Ako to strengthen school practice and raise student achievement » strong oral and written communication skills » a methodical and systematic approach to work whilst being solution focused.
