Te Arawhiti is the Office for M?ori Crown Relations and is dedicated to fostering strong, continuing and effective relationships with M?ori across Government. The kaupapa of Te Arawhiti is to make the Crown a better partner, enabling effective engagement with M?ori to realise the true promise of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and to support relationships not focused on grievance but on a journey of partnership. The focus of Te Arawhiti is to complete historical Treaty settlements, to ensure commitments in Treaty settlements endure, and to improve public sector capcapability and M?ori-Crown relations.

Every day is different: you might engage with iwi or M?ori entities on their aspirations, lead complex projects or workstreams, and draft reports to Ministers. We’re looking for people with knowledge of te ao M?ori, Ministerial and Cabinet processes, and with excellent relationship management and problem-solving expertise.
We welcome applications for permanent, fixed term or secondment opportunities into this function.
He p?kenga tou/ expertise and practice
We’re looking for motivated, talented and hard-working Principal Advisors to join us. We have functions available within:
   » Te K?hui Whakatau – responsible for negotiating settlements of historical Treaty of Waitangi claims; and
   » Te K?hui Whakamana – ensuring the durcapability of Treaty settlements and supporting settlements to enable future partnerships between iwi and the Crown.
To be prosperous in the Principal Advisor function, you’ll have an broad career ideally with an knowledge of te reo me ng? tikanga M?ori, and a background in Te Tiriti o Waitangi/Treaty of Waitangi, legal, and/or natural resources. You will have demonstrated capability working across agencies to achieve results.
The Office for M?ori Crown Relations – Te Arawhiti
We’re a Crown agency dedicated to fostering strong, continuing and effective relationships with M?ori across government. In addition to work of the K?hui listed above, we do this by engaging with candidates under the Marine and Coastal Area (Takutai Moana) Act and the Ng? Rohe Moana o Ng? Hap? o Ng?ti Porou Act (Te K?hui Takutai Moana), and improving the health of the M?ori Crown relationship (Te K?hui H?kina). Te H?pai ? Strategy, Policy and Legal work with us to develop policy and strategic advice, and provide legal advice.

income range: The appointing income for this function will be between $116,741 and $152,450 located on expertise and practice.
