About our group and team Our aim is to put children and young people at the heart of the education system and encourage all New Zealanders to participate in lifelong learning. The Sector Enablement and Support Group is the key interface between the Ministry and schools, wharekura, education providers, and communities. About this function This diverse and busy position supports two Associate Deputy Secretaries in Sector Enablement and Support. The position provides support and advice for early learning and schooling across a broad range of activities, with a particular focus on strategic advice in relation to the implementation of national and regional priorities. Furthermore, the position supports links with the education sector and other social sector agencies partnering with the Ministry to deliver government initiatives. You’ll be joining a collaborative, high-performing team with a culture of constructive, open-minded debate who work together to implement effective, positive change. this function is an integral part of our team, providing support and leading key pieces of work, building relationships across the wider organisation to deliver Ministry priorities. In this function you will: » provide advice and information to the Associate Deputy Secretaries on key operational and implementation issues that pertain to early learning and schooling » supervise information flows between Associate Deputy Secretaries and direct reports as well as other key relationships across National Office » supporting the Associate Deputy Secretaries to ensure that Directors of Education and regional staff have influence, and are appropriately engaged and involved, in Ministry work planning, implementation, delivery and communication activities. About you To be prosperous you will: » the capability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangata whenuatanga » have strong stakeholder engagement/relationship management expertise » be diplomatic and have excellent judgement » demonstrate impressive problem-solving expertise; and » have an capability to work at pace, producing cogent argument from assorted data and delivering clear messages in a range of media.
