Public Health Association New Zealand (PHANZ) is an independent national membership association with a commitment to health for all. They recognise Te Tiriti o Waitangi as a foundational document, defining respectful relationships between Tangata Whenua and Tangata Tiriti and are committed to being a Te Tiriti located organisation. Their primary function is to:

On a Strategic level, intention is to influence the formulation and evaluation of health policies, lead public debate and prioritises equity, child health and wellbeing, mental and housing health, amongst other key areas. Committed to ensuring Te Tiriti values of respect, partnership, and equality, are infused into all policies, actions, and services, you will lead the organisational governance and decision-making to reflect Te Tiriti values. This will be especially critical, when representing the specific needs of M?ori, to ensure kaupapa M?ori solutions are factored into all decisions regarding public health.
Te ?hua o Te T?runga – A bit of about the function
The purpose of this position is to lead implementation of PHA’s strategic framework influencing the formulation and evaluation of health policies. You will take leadership abilities of PHA, ensuring the PHA is and can be, a collective voice across the public health sector. Advocating on behalf of constituency, across academics, government-funded NGO's, and voiceless communities, you will build collaborative relationships with decision makers, advocating and communicating to and through all forms of media.
This position has a broad remit which covers the development of an effective public health workforce and the active promotion of public health workforce development, especially for M?ori and Pasifika. Disseminating research and evidence to support effective public health action, you will take a proactive stance in supporting PHANZ members to develop and implement strategy. Working in collaboration with members and other stakeholders, you will set about creating and leading a team of competent and engaged staff, building a team culture that reflects the values of the organisation. Ensuring continuing sustaincapability of the organisation, including through diversifying funding streams, you will grow capcapability, infrastructure and diversify membership.
You will be seeking to promote a credible organisation and sector public profile. Reporting to the PHANZ Co-Presidents, and acting on behalf of the PHANZ's Executive Council, you will already have an established skill set, and profile across the sector. Consultative, and collaborative in your style of leadership abilities, you will have the aptitude to relate to the diverse disciplines of public health. Possessing an entrepreneurial flair and availability to learn, you will also have a hands-on approach and an engaging disposition that works well with others.
Politically savvy, and operating with political neutrality, you will have a raft of commercial acumen. Brokering new relationships, and enhancing established ones, you will be working across all levels of business with academic colleagues, schools of public health, professional bodies and with the general public. Promoting public knowledge of public health perspective on health issues, you will draw on your skills to connect disparate parties.

A significant tertiary qualification, preferably in public health or management, is highly desirable, although not a mandatory requirement.
