About the function
As an Arms Vetter, you will be travelling within your local area , visiting license candidates and their referees in their homes. You will be taught how to assess the applicant’s security set up, as well as their suitcapability ensure they are reaching the required criteria. Directly supporting the Historic File Support Firearms team, you will manage your interview times, generally starting your day in the house or from your local Police Station. Managing your time well, so that you can meet with your candidates at different times of the day, such as after they finish work, it’s a requirement of application that you do have a level of flexibility as to the actual hours you work .
As a fixed term member of this team, you will function primarily involve interviewing firearms license candidates and other persons, in order to determine an applicant’s suitcapability to be issued with a New Zealand firearms license. To do this, you’ll already have a great communication style, sound computer expertise, be self-managing and enjoy working in a goal driven environment. With excellent attention to detail, the capability to take instruction and be welcoming of continuing training, you’ll enjoy being part of a fast paced, proactive culture where you’ll genuinely be making a difference You will be trained to interview, make assessments, use systems and set processes, and have personal Mana and confidence to engage with members of the public.

This will often involve some early evening work
Key Accountabilities
   » Interviewing applicant and referees for a firearms licence.
   » Inspecting firearms security in private premises.
   » Inventory checks of firearms held by dealers and endorsement holders (eg, pistols and restricted weapons).
   » Consistent and efficient processing of applications and reporting on security of each license application.
   » As required, perform tasks to support the Historic File Support Team in regulatory functions and/or administration and operational responsibilities of the Arms licensing process.
