We invite applications for a Psychologist/Special Education Advisor to join our Learning Support team at the Ministry of Education for the Wellington region. The Psychologist/Special Education Advisor will be responsible for the provision of high-quality support to learners, wh?nau/families and education providers from early learning centres, kura and schools. About us Learning support is a critical part of Te Mahau – Te Tai Runga in the Ministry. We are charged with leading the education sector in ensuring that children and young people with additional learning needs are supported to reach their full potential through education. We work closely with wh?nau, families, caregivers, kura, schools and early learning centres in English and M?ori medium settings. The Ministry of Education Wellington Region Learning Support team provides a friendly and supportive working environment. About this function We are pursuing a candidate who has demonstrable expertise and expertise in supporting children and young people with complex behaviour. In addition to this, the candidate must do the following: » Have expertise in identifying contributing factors that may be influencing children and young people in their learning, well-being, and behaviour » Be able to provide specialist assessment and evidence located informed interventions » Have expertise about and be able to work in a culturally responsive way given our commitment to honouring the principles Te Tiriti o Waitangi » Be able to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team About you We are pursuing a skilled and motivated Psychologist/Special Education Advisor to join our multi-disciplinary team. The prosperous candidate will have the following: » A Masters level tertiary qualification and a post-graduate Diploma in Educational Psychology and be registered under the Health Practitioners Competency Assurance Act and to hold a current practicing certificate (psychologist function) » Qualified teacher with practice in inclusionary practice, post graduate qualification is desirable (Special Education Advisor) » capability to translate specialist expertise into practical information » capability to co-ordinate service provision in a multi-agency, trans-disciplinary setting » Excellent communication and interpersonal expertise and an capability to work effectively with children, young people and their families and teachers across a diverse range of settings » Provide professional support and guidance to wh?nau, families, caregivers, kura, schools and early learning services in English and M?ori medium settings » Able to work effectively across early learning services and schools » A full New Zealand driver’s licence as travel is essential for this function As part of your application, please include a cover letter together with CV addressed to Rosalie Hunt, Service Manager, Learning Support, Ministry of Education.
