Kai Tohutohu Matua Aroturuki – Senior Advisor (Independent Children’s Monitor)

Te Mana Whakamaru Tamariki Motuhake (The Independent Children's Monitor) provides independent oversight across the Oranga Tamariki system. Its primary function is to monitor those organisations that have custody and care of children and young people with a focus on supporting improved results for them and their wh?nau. This is achieved through feeding back to organisations, communities and agencies, as well as reporting findings to the Minister.

As a Kai Tohutohu Matua Aroturuki - Senior Advisor Monitoring, you will be the public face of the Monitor. You will spend most of your time working in small groups, engaging with the community to understand and record the practice of children and their families, professionals, caregivers and others who participate in the lives of children in care. knowledge the context and intricacies of this work and the function of whakawhanaungatanga (establishing relationships) and manaakitanga (showing respect, generosity and care) is essential.
We're looking for a Senior Advisor who can bring proven practice working at an operational level and provide sound analysis and advice.Ideally you will have broad practice in either social services, education or health along with local community knowledge and responsive and appropriate expertise gained in working with Maori, Pacific and vulnerable communities.A background in monitoring is an advantage, however an openness and commitment to mahi tahi in a te ao M?ori way is essential.

Please note: this position is Auckland located and an expectation of the function is that you will be able to commit to regular travel nationwide.
*The term ?Oranga Tamariki system? is used to describe any agency services provided to children and young people under the Oranga Tamariki Act 1989 and includes all agencies that provide services to children in the Oranga Tamariki system, for example health, education and discapability services and includes non-government organisations.
