About our group and team
The Sector Enablement and Support Group of the Ministry of Education is the key interface between the Ministry and the education sector. Wellington-located national office staff provide a range of support to their regional colleagues, who ensure sector leaders and the communities they serve have access to the skills, programmes and resources that will allow all children and young people to reach their full potential in the education system and beyond.
The Sector Engagement team is a connector of mahi and relationships with regional colleagues and across the wider Ministry, performs an editing and proofreading function across the group, and is responsible for the Ministry’s key method of communicating with the schooling sector.
Abo ut this function
The lead adviser is one of a team of three focused mainly on editing, proof reading and other internal communications activities within the group, but also on the external sector publication: Ministry Bulletin for School Leaders – He Pitopito Korero.
You’ll be comfortable visiting schools and early learning services to convey their stories for the Education Gazette.
You’ll also be comfortable with ambiguity and work changing direction at short notice.
About you
You will have an excellent knowledge of the English language, an eye for detail, and will be highly organised. Most importantly, you will be customer focused.
In addition, you will be an practiced communications professional keen to maintain the high standards in place for coordinating and distributing Ministry information to stakeholders.
You will also offer the following:
   » The capability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangata whenuatanga
   » practice working with diverse internal stakeholders and managing conflicting requirements
   » In depth knowledge of plain English, customer-focused information
   » practice producing and editing a range of content
   » The capability to use and quickly adapt to changing technology
   » Skills in listening, leading, influencing and collaborating
   » A can-do attitude and proactive work style
   » Sound judgment, and a high level of initiative and common sense
   » Resilience to stay on course in a complex and demanding environment
   » Flexibility to change direction and do what’s required to get work done
   » Confidence to visit schools or early learning services if required
The Sector Engagement team works closely with a range of mainly internal customers. Though the team is small, flexible work arrangements are possible and are subject to the mahi required and the principles of fairness.
