We have a great opportunity for a Cultural Development Advisor to join our team and help bring kaupapa, tikanga and Te Reo M?ori approaches to this Inquiry.
Te Tiriti o Waitangi is the founding document of Aotearoa New Zealand and the Royal Commission is committed to applying its principles to the Inquiry – our terms of reference recognises the status of iwi and M?ori under Te Tiriti, and ours is the first Inquiry of this nature that formally acknowledges its indigenous population in this way. all over this Inquiry, we will partner with M?ori and will give appropriate recognition to M?ori interests, acknowledging the disproportionate representation of M?ori (particularly of children and young people in care).
About the function
You will work across the Royal Commission to build capcapability and increase our capability to engage with M?ori. You will ensure a tailored learning approach that reflects Te Tiriti o Waitangi and complements existing expertise.
You will also have the opportunity to lead regional engagements with iwi to build strong, significant and enduring relationships to achieve mutually beneficial results.
To be prosperous in this position, you will require significant practice in working with others internally and externally to identify significant expertise and approaches to engaging with M?ori, as well as the capability to influence others.
What you’ll bring for success:
   » High level of proficiency in Te Reo me tikanga
   » Proven excellence in building trusting relationships at all levels across and organisation
   » practice in providing policy documents to a high level
   » Proven capability to manage workflows in a fast-paced and complex environment
   » Strong knowledge and practice of Te Reo me ona tikanga M?ori and Te Reo M?ori in practice
   » Eligibility to work in Aotearoa – this includes holding a valid work visa that covers the whole period of employment
   » Availcapability to travel all over Aotearoa
It is also desirable that you have all or some of the following:
   » Confidence in cultural practices and discapability inclusive approaches
   » Show knowledge that is consistent with Te Tiriti o Waitangi
   » A demonstrated knowledge of trauma informed approaches

The Royal Commission of Inquiry into Historical Abuse in State Care and in the Care of Faith-located Institutions is investigating the abuse and neglect of children, young people and vulnerable adults who were in the care of state and faith-located institutions in Aotearoa New Zealand between 1950 and 1999 and will make recommendations aimed at stopping this happening in the future.
