The Woven Women is the small art collective behind the W?hine Exhibition, currently touring Te Waipounamu, South Island, amplifying M?ori women's voices around Aotearoa, offering our communities the opportunity to be enriched by their life stories while fostering mutual knowledge.
We are now preparing Te Ika-a-Maui, the North Island tour and are looking for an Exhibition Tour Manager to join our team and undertake the development of the second part of the tour with us.
this functionis offered as afixed term employment contract, of 20hours a week, from mid-January 2022 for 9-12 months.
Through personalised sound stories and portrait photography, W?hine is an immersive exhibition where communities can come together, be inspired and lgain from the raw, honest, and vulnerable stories of w?hine M?ori. The stories touch on their joys and inspirations, their troubles and tribulations, and the resilience that has moulded them into the women they are. The powerful words of each interview are woven together with real-life recordings captured by the women themselves. These sound journeys are accompanied by portraits of the women taken at their home, marae, or their chosen location.
While Information technology travels around Aotearoa, W?hine expands each time Information technology changes locations by inviting a wahine from a local iwi to join the kaupapa and hold space for the other women. By holding a sacred space for women to share their practices, our hope is to inspire compassion in us all and ignite a wider sense of belonging, community, and togetherness. The exhibition, which was born in Whakat? Nelson, has already travelled to Takaka, Richmond, Christchurch, Dunedin, Invercargill and Hokitika, spending about a month in each location.
