Advisor, COVID-19 Response and Planning
(Fixed term)
   » Engage with the Civil Defence Emergency Management sector and the All-of- Government response to COVID-19
   » Assist with the planning and response to any COVID-19 resurgence event at the national and regional levels
   » Support NEMA with short and long-term COVID-19 contingency planning.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) provides national leadership abilities to New Zealand’s distributed emergency management system. NEMA’s primary focus is on the performance and capcapability of the emergency management system as a whole, across all hazards and all risks and the 4 Rs of risk reduction, readiness, response and recovery. We are going through an exciting phase of growth and there will be more opportunities with NEMA over the coming months.

function Purpose
The purpose of the National Operations Unit / Tari o Ng? Mahi ?-Motu is to lead the operational systems, arrangements, facilities and infrastructure of NEMA and New Zealand’s emergency management system to be ready for and able to respond effectively to emergencies.
The Advisor, COVID-19 Response and Planning will support NEMA with short and long-term COVID-19 planning at the regional and national levels. They will engage with the Civil Defence Emergency Management sector, the All-of-Government COVID-19 lead agency and supporting agencies to plan for, and respond to, any COVID-19 resurgence event.

   » A tertiary level qualification in a significant field
   » Sound technical acumen, with regards to Information technology and communication systems
   » practice working with multiple internal and external stakeholders, and negotiating and managing their variable needs to support deliverables.
   » practice in supporting senior managers and providing support to projects and programmes of work
   » Excellent secretariat, administration, organisational and process management expertise
   » Previous practice within the COVID-19 All-of-Government response framework

   » capability to multitask, reprioritise and react to issues that arise during the day whilst keeping calm and professional in demanding situations
   » capability to influence without authority and ensure work gets completed effectively and on time
