Kinloch Wilderness Retreat is surrounded by the beech forest alongside Lake Wakatipu and the Dart River. We are a small family business consisting of a lodge with heritage rooms (from 1868!), backpacker rooms, EcoScapes, and a cozy restaurant serving breakfast and dinner. We are constantly working towards lightening our impact on the planet and helping guests enjoy a mindful, relaxing environment. We have just put in a yurt, nested in the beech forest above the lodge, and are working towards a retreat located environment. Sourcing our food close to the land is very important to us, although our vegetable garden has been rather neglected due to staff shortages this last year. Type of work: We will sometimes need help with cleaning and housekeeping (toilets, kitchen, bathrooms, rooms etc.) but the majority of our site is closed for winter, so just 8 rooms are open for the next 4 months, bar any group bookings. We may also need help with prep work in the restaurant kitchen, and occasionally with service. There is plenty of outdoor work as well which includes tidying up the grounds, moving logs, splitting logs for firewood, weeding, site maintenance etc. We are happy to work to people's expertise and match you to work as best we can. We guarantee 2 hours work on average per day to cover the cost of your accommodation; this is essentially a help exchange, but as a business we must treat you as paid staff. We do have more hours for the right people who work at a good pace, to a good standard and independently. Work typically starts at 10am but we can be flexible depending on the work you're doing. You will get plenty of time to enjoy the outdoors, relax, catch up on some reading, make plans for the future, learn, or whatever you enjoy! Days off can be accommodated. You We are seeking for enthusiastic people that are not afraid of hard work, are detail oriented, and able to work efficiently and independently. We are always keen to take on people wanting to stay for longer periods, but will consider shorter stays. We require all our staff to speak English fluently. All casual staff require a WORKING VISA and an IRD NUMBER. You will get paid for every hour worked at $20/hr + 8% holiday pay, then your accommodation cost is taken from your wages ($36 a night - 2hrs work covers this). Check our website to see what a gorgeous area we are in; remote, yet only an hour from Queenstown and 26kms from Glenorchy. We're close to major tracks (Routeburn, Greenstone/Caples, Rees/Dart), many day walks and great outdoor activities. There's lots to do in the area and you'll have endlessaccess to our kayaks, bicycles, fishing rods (license required!), and of course the hot tub with amazing views! Life here is pretty cost neutral as all the best activities are free! Accommodation Accommodation is usually in the cozy staff house, often you'll have your own room (not guaranteed), and great lake and mountain views, but Information technology can be one of the hostel rooms. You will have access to endlesshigh speed wifi, free laundry, a TV room with over 200 DVDs and a fully equipped kitchen is provided. John and Toni are happy to help you arrange groceries from Queenstown if you're unable to go or simply don't want to. We’ve built our business from the ground up and our heart is in our business.
