Our Procurement teams sit across both the Business Enablement and Support (BE&S) and Education Infrastructure Service (EIS) groups. Our teams deliver well-connected, efficient and effective services that enable our people to do their best work every day.
BE&S procurement work across the Ministry of Education and with the education sector to ensure critical capabilities and infrastructure are in place so together we can make a bigger difference for more students.
About this function
We have an opportunity for a Principal Procurement Specialist to join the team to focus on the Ministry’s corporate portfolio of work, for a 12 month fixed-term position, as parental leave cover.
The Ministry of Education Procurement team is a leader in NZ government. We work across the Ministry of Ed ucation and the education sector to ensure critical services, capabilities and infrastructure are in place so together we can make a bigger difference for more students.
The Principal Procurement Specialist will provide specialist procurement leadership abilities, mentoring and support for Group Managers and teams, including working collaboratively to execute needs analysis, develop sourcing strategies, establish procurement plans and manage high quality procurement processes that deliver tangible value to each Group and the wider Ministry.
The Principal Procurement Specialist is responsible for creating, communicating and delivery of the ‘end to end’ procurement life cycle, as well as identifying and implementing areas of improvement through the procurement of products and services that support the Ministry.
We’re keen to hear from people who push themselves and think out of the box, you don’t think procurement is a process and are happy to manage risk – rather than remove Information technology with undue compliance. About you
Ideally you will be interested in gathering, analysing and the presentation of information, a knowledge of procurement and great relationship expertise. The capability to drive change through influence is key in this function. You will have strong analytical and numerical expertise with good attention to detail and the capability to interpret and draw conclusions and own decisions.
You will also offer the following:
   » Strong procurement capcapability and practice in a Public Sector procurement environment or other significant transferable practice
   » Excellent verbal and written communication expertise to convey complex information to a variety of audiences
   » A customer focus, and be dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers
   » A focus on the delivery of results
   » A passion for procurement and a desire to grow your expertise and practice within a leading Government procurement function
   » A tertiary qualification in a related field
The following attributes are also desirable:
   » Full membership of CIPS (Level 6 / MCIPS)
   » The capability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangatawhenuatanga to the function
