The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) provides national leadership abilities to New Zealand’s distributed emergency management system. NEMA’s primary focus is on the performance and capcapability of the emergency management system as a whole, across all hazards and all risks and the 4 Rs of risk reduction, readiness, response and recovery. We are going through an exciting phase of growth and there will be more opportunities with NEMA over the coming months.

The Advisor/Senior Advisor, Social and Community Resilience will be instrumental in helping to develop, lead and design our community resilience and welfare planning in response to New Zealand’s hazards, risks and emergencies. You will utilise your broad networks to build and leverage relationships with key partners to support the development of frameworks and arrangements for community resilience and welfare services during and following emergencies.
Promoting a collaborative approach, you will provide quality analytical advice and guidance on a range of processes, doctrines and guidelines to ensure quality practice is aligned with the aspirations of communities.
Skills and practice:
   » The capability to engage and build key strategic relationships with our partners, new stakeholders within communities while making connections between NEMA externally is vital
   » Confidence to apply your expertise to assess the needs and aspirations of communities and translate these into the design and delivery of our planning
   » A track record in connecting service delivery, community consultation, planning and networking across Government and communities
   » Be a conceptual thinker who can translate our aspirations for communities into quantifiable actions
   » The capability to continuously improve the quality of our delivery ensuring our stakeholders are provided with timely, professional & quality leadership abilities
   » In depth expertise of communities, models of practice and sensitivity to the nuances of cross-cultural issues and how they will impact on our delivery
   » practice in working and supporting a across government agencies to build perspectives and methodologies into core agency business
What you will need to succeed:
   » Be motivated by challenge, bring a positive, flexible approach to work with a strong “can-do” attitude
   » Strong relationship building skills, with the capability to collaborate and take a lead function in supporting and developing sustainable relationships with numerous external stakeholders and partners across other government agencies, CDEM Groups, Providers and communities
   » Be results focused, able to deliver under pressure and on time
   » A high level of evidence located verbal and written communication skills
   » Possess excellent judgement, analytical and sound decision-making skills
   » Bring a high degree of resilience coupled with a responsive proactive and pragmatic approach to your work
   » A passion for working across sectors and with key providers to ensure we provide sound advice and can implement effective change
   » Confidence to apply your skills and expertise across a breadth of inter-agency functions and disciplines helping us to build on our emergency management aspirations with our communities
   » Demonstrated practice influencing, building credibility and trust
   » availability to share skills across NEMA
