About the function | M? te t?nga The Director Custodial Services is a newly formed key leadership abilities function that will undertake operational leadership abilities and governance oversight of critical business operations across the Central Region Prisons on behalf of the Regional Commissioner. Responsible for leading the delivery of prison related operational functions andthe pro-active identification and management of risk across all facets of the operation to promote the safety of all those we manage. The function will be focused on ensuring optimal delivery of all prison related services and continuous improvement initiatives whilst balancing care, security, health, education and rehabilitation imperatives for the people we manage. Key will be the development of effective relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, an emphasis on teamwork and co-operation between all parties. The journey of a person we manage does not stop at the prison gates so a focus on ensuring they can reach their potential on release is also a key aspect of the Director’s function, in conjunction with the Regional leadership abilities team, Community Corrections leaders, iwi and other partners. As a key member of the Regional leadership abilities Team reporting to the Regional Commissioner the position has a significant responsibility and accountcapability to lead, model and enable the realisation of the internal culture and capcapability that will be critical to achieving Ara Poutama’s strategy H?kai Rangi including building strong relationships with mana whenua across the region. About you | M?u practiced as both a strategic and operational practitioner, you instinctively provide visible leadership abilities, have the courage, passion and determination to deliver outstanding results, while raising the bar for quality practice. You will have sound technical knowledge across the spectrum of custodial issues. You will need to demonstrate your significant practice at a senior level, exemplary relationship expertise, conflict management/resolution and the capability to encourage and lead co-operative efforts taking account of strategic goals, pressures and priorities. You will lead and drive change in a challenging operating environment while motivating managers and their teams to share a common vision and purpose. As a conceptual thinker you will be able to quickly connect with the strategic objectives while remaining attuned to everyday operational issues.
