The Ministry of Health is the kaitiaki of the health and discapability system in New Zealand. We are responsible for providing active stewardship and leadership abilities across the nation’s health and discapability system. We ensure the system provides people with the highest levels of care, regardless of who they are or where they live.
We are seeking for a person with passion, drive, knowledge, and practice in the appointment of a Chief Advisor Maori in the DHB Performance and Support Directorate.
About the function
You will work with a multi skilled team that supports the Deputy Director General and the wider Directorate to ensure all DHBs deliver on their operational, capital and financial performance. We also deliver major health infrastructure projects for the Crown.
This challenging and important function will provide high quality, strategic advice, leadership abilities, analysis and recommendations that support the Directorates to deliver their work programmes. You will act as the subject matter expert on M?ori approaches, and maintain strong working relationships enabling effective collaboration with stakeholders.
What you will bring:
   » A tertiary qualification in a health or significant field and /or equivalent practice
   » skills in the health sector in particular from a M?ori world view and across the age range
   » Exceptional communication skills and demonstrated capability to collaborate with and influence a range of key internal and external stakeholders, at all levels
   » Well-developed written and oral communication skills, and the capability to write for a range of audiences
   » An knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and wh?nau, hap?, iwi needs, engagement and context. knowledge and/or fluency in te reo M?ori, tikanga M?ori, m?tauranga and kaupapa Maori a would be a strong advantage
   » Knowledge and practice of public health approaches that impact on health inequities would be an advantage
   » A collegial attitude and desire to work with colleagues to achieve results, and share your knowledge and skills to support the growth of the team
   » Government practice is not a requirement, but would be beneficial
