Help shape the future of education
At the Ministry of Education, we work together to shape an education system that delivers equitable and excellent results.
Our organisation is made up of more than 3,000 talented and committed people around New Zealand, from a wide variety of backgrounds and cultures.
While we work in different groups and on different things, we all strive every day to make the biggest difference we can for every child, young person and adult student in our education system.
About our group
Education Infrastructure Service (EIS), a part of the Ministry of Education, manages the Crown’s second largest property portfolio of around 2,100 schools with a book value of $19.6 billion, the largest payroll in the country, and transportation of over 100,000 students to and from school each day.
Our vision for school property is that all schools have quality learning environments as part of a well-managed and sustainable portfolio that helps deliver equitable and excellent results for every child.

About the function

The purpose of the team is to provide guidance and financial knowledge to the Ministry on infrastructure projects, this will help inform the Ministry’s Property Strategy and provide support on construction projects across the Ministry.
You will have a leading function in taking our pricing information into an operational cap capability that can be used as part of BAU. This is a critical component of the School Property Strategy and is focussed on delivering the Ministry’s vision through partnering with key internal and external stakeholders.
About you
You will have practice in a Quantity Surveying function or similar construction background (preferably in New Zealand) combined with practice providing analysis of complex issues. You will also offer significant financial / cost / data analysis practice.
If you’d like to bring your expertise to a compensateing function within an organisation that’s continuously reaching goals and striving for a better future for New Zealand, we’d love to hear from you.
Are you ready to make a difference?
Diversity of all kinds is extremely important, and we embrace a diversity of perspectives. We welcome applications from individuals of all backgrounds, orientations, and identities.
We aim to provide stimulating, open working environments where everyone feels significant, valued and supported. But we know that, for everyone here, work is only one part of life. Making time for family, friends, hobbies and passions is vital.
So, if working in the house and/or having a flexible start and finish to the day will help with this, we can usually make Information technology happen. We’d love to hear what this might look like for you, so feel free to outline this in your Cover Letter.
The Ministry is committed to keeping to the Treaty of Waitangi’s guiding principles in our work for and with M?ori students, their wh?nau, hap? and iwi.
