We have a unique opportunity for a suitably qualified General Surgeon to join our Surgical team for a fixed term position. We are seeking for a surgeon who demonstrates a commitment to high quality care, teaching and leadership abilities in the field. The prosperous candidate will primarily be focussed on managing skin cancer in the outpatient setting. practice with operating under local anaesthetic conditions and minor plastic surgical techniques would be an advantage. There would also be the options of participating in the General Surgical on call roster to manage acute patients to assist with maintaining the candidate's wider expertiseet and also performing elective upper and lower gastrointestinal procedures. The General and Vascular surgery team is part of a close knit and supportive medical community within the Hawke's Bay DHB. Our team is committed to providing a high quality of care to the Hawke's Bay population. There is a strong collegial attitude and an active commitment to continuing education. The team works in conjunction with two consultant Dermatologists in the skin discipline as well as the practiced GPs in the region. Hawke's Bay DHB has its main hospital situated in Hastings, New Zealand and satellite services in Napier, Waipukurau and Wairoa. The Hastings located hospital is a large secondary level, 400 bed accredited public hospital providing acute and elective care for a region of 170,000 people. The hospital offers a full range of surgical, medical, oncology and radiological services. Information technology boasts a level 2 Intensive Care Unit and an Anaesthetic department capable of handling all major cases. Medical Oncology is located on site and planning to commission on site Radiation Oncology is underway. There are seven operating theatres with an expansion to eight currently in the early phases of construction. There is a separate endoscopy services building that was commissioned in 2018 in time to start offering the National Bowel Screening Programme to the Hawke's Bay population. Junior medical staff support includes four accredited General Surgery SET trainees and seven unaccredited General Surgical registrars along with an SHO and team House agents. There are clinical nurse specialists for all the major subspecialties including trauma.
