We have a unique opportunity for a suitably qualified General Surgeon to join our Surgical team. We are seeking for a surgeon who demonstrates a commitment to high quality care, teaching and leadership abilities in the field on a full-time or part-time permanent basis. The prosperous candidate will manage a wide variety of General Surgical conditions and be expected to fully participate in the General Surgical on call roster (1:9) and manage acute patients. An practiced endoscopist for both upper and lower gastrointestinal procedures would be an advantage. With our growing workload across many sub-specialties, having practice, interest or post-fellowship training in any of the following sub-specialities would be an advantage: Breast, Colorectal or Upper GI surgery. The General and Vascular surgery team is part of a close knit and supportive medical community within the Hawke's Bay DHB. Our team is committed to providing a high quality of care to the Hawke's Bay population. There is a strong collegial attitude and an active commitment to continuing education. Hawke's Bay DHB has its main hospital situated in Hastings, New Zealand. Information technology is a large secondary level, 400 bed accredited public hospital providing acute and elective care for a region of 180,000 people. The hospital offers a full range of surgical, medical, oncology and radiological services. Information technology boasts a level 2 Intensive Care Unit and an Anaesthetic department capable of handling all major cases. Medical Oncology is located on site and planning to commission on site Radiation Oncology is underway. There are seven operating theatres with renovation of the Perioperative Unit and addition of an eighth theatre currently under construction. There is a separate endoscopy services building that was commissioned in 2018 in time to start offering the National Bowel Screening Programme to the Hawke's Bay population. Junior medical staff support includes four accredited General Surgery SET trainees and seven unaccredited General Surgical registrars along with an acute SHO and team House Surgeons. There are clinical nurse specialists for all the major subspecialties.
