The Team:What we do
Our Specialist Mental Health Services (SMHS) are at the leading edge of mental health service delivery. We provide a range of inpatient and community services to people in the Canterbury district. Our SMHS offer a wide variety of specialty areas, including: Adult Community; Adult Acute; Rehabilitation; Child, Adolescent and Family (CAF); Forensic; Alcohol and Drug; Intellectually Disabled Persons' Health, and more.
We have a variety of opportunities across our services for Pukenga Atawhai to mahi alongside tangata whaiora, providing education and support underpinned by a strong cultural component in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team. These functions will see you be part of, and be supported by, Te Korowai Atawhai, the M?ori Mental Health Service. Our service's philosophy is whanaungatanga, acknowledging the centrality of wh?nau in our work and the lives of tangata whaiora.
These permanent opportunities include the following:
   » Part-time (0.5FTE/20hr per week) in our Child, Adolescent and Family Access team
   » Full-time (1.0FTE/40hr per week) in our Te Awakura Inpatient Service
   » Part-time (0.7FTE/28hr per week) in our Crisis Resolution Service
   » Part-time (0.5FTE/20hr per week) in our Rural Service
   » Part-time (0.4FTE/16hr per week) in our Ashburton Service

The function:Where you fit in
In this function, you will be responsible for the following:
   » Completing Te Arotakenga (cultural assessments) as well as supporting/educating tangata whaiora and their wh?nau through the service
   » Working alongside clinical staff to provide education and function modelling to ensure culturally appropriate treatment is provided
   » Assisting and supporting staff in knowledge Tikanga M?ori and be proactive in promoting the Pukenga Atawhai function
Your skills will include:
   » the capability to build and nurture relationships with tangata whaiora and their wh?nau, as well as the wider multidisciplinary team
   » strong knowledge of Te Reo M?ori and me ?na Tikanga M?ori, along with an capability to work holistically with tangata whaiora
   » practice in Hauora M?ori is advantageous
   » as some travel may be required for community work, a NZ driver's license is essential.
