Resource Management (RM) reform is at a critical point for Aotearoa New Zealand. This is the first time the Government has undertaken reform of this size, giving significant effect to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and improving recognition of te ao M?ori, through a stronger Tiriti clause and striving to encapsulate the intergenerational importance of the health and wellbeing of the natural environment.The magnitude of the task is no doubt a challenge, but the opportunity is once in a lifetime.

As we transition from the development of key policy into parliamentary reform and implementation, our RM Treaty Settlements team have a new opportunity for an established policy professional to join their specialist team. Advising and influencing at the forefront of Crown-M?ori relationships, your function as Kait?tari Kaupapa Here Matua / Senior Policy Analyst is strategically focussed on providing high-quality advice and briefings to Ministers with respect to upholding Treaty settlement arrangements into the new resource management system and to support reform implementation.
This is a high-touch function offering a unique opportunity to gain a wealth of knowledge and exposure to immense policy reform and parliamentary processes. You will work in close collaboration with colleagues and teams across the Ministry, including our RM reform engagement leads, at times also working in consultation with PSGEs to progress the Crown’s commitment in upholding these settlements.
The nature of our working environment is fast-paced, so your flexibility and adaptcapability to navigate multiple priorities all critical in nature, whilst balancing Minister directions and requests for certainty in a time of immense change for Aotearoa, is critical to your success.The location for this function is flexible which means you can work anywhere in New Zealand and there is an option to work in the house. Do you want to play an important part in strengthening M?ori/Crown relationships for the betterment of te Taiao? Our ideal candidate will have:
   » Policy practice or proven environmental planning practice;
   » A good knowledge of the machinery of government and familiarity with parliamentary processes and reforming legislation;
   » Exceptional writing expertise - you can tailor communications to suit varying audiences;
   » A pragmatic and agile systems-thinker - you have the capability to effectively navigate and deliver against multiple competing priorities;
   » Confidence and credibility in managing relationships and stakeholder interactions at different levels;
   » An academic qualification in law, policy, economics, social science or proven environmental planning practice;
   » Commitment to developing your cultural capcapability and capacity in te ao M?ori.

income Range
income range for this function is from $101,802 up to $124,424 pa. Appointment within this range will be located on expertise and practice.
