About our group and team Our aim is to put children and young people at the heart of the education system and encourage all New Zealanders to participate in lifelong learning. The Sector Enablement and Support Group is the key interface between the Ministry and schools, wharekura, education providers, and communities. Our teams around the country work closely with the Early Childhood and Schooling sectors, providers, and communities to provide support, skills and resources to help children and young people reach their full potential. We also directly provide Learning Support for around 40,000 children and young people. The School Support team is operationally focused, developing and supporting guidance for schools in a variety of areas including health an d safety and emergency management. Key work programmes include the Principal Recruitment Allowance, Education Outside the Classroom, School Hostel licensing and leading our business group’s emergency response function. We put policy into practice and in doing so work regularly with Ministry staff in our regional offices, other national office groups, and a range of government agencies and external stakeholders. About this function You will develop and provide skills to lead key initiatives and to support and enable decision making. The Lead Adviser will contribute strongly to our team and group strategy as well as proactively supporting our team culture and capcapability. Working in the School Support team provides a positive mix of planned and reactive work with good opportunity for variety and change. About you The nature of our work requires a person with excellent relationship management skills and the capability to focus on and meet customer requirements in a complex and changing environment. Among the skills you will bring are: » able to understand complex and challenging issues » the capability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangata whenuatanga » sound judgment, and well-developed analytical and evidence-located decision-making skills » excellent writing and editing skills. Recent knowledge or practice in New Zealand primary or secondary schooling is also an advantage. You will be joining a small but great team who enjoy working together to make an impact.
