About this function
The Lead Data Analyst is responsible for providing technical and thought leadership abilities, planning and delivery of high quality data services and products. Youwill identify opportunities for improvement to current systems and processes (e.g. timeliness, accuracy), then design, develop and implement these according to best practice.In this function you will champion excellent data management practices and work with colleagues to ensure the needs of data users are met and exceeded.
About you
As the Lead Data Analyst, you will be an practiced data analyst with a strong technical background in data manipulation and analysis. You will need to be strategic, have sound judgment and proactively identify issues before they arise. You will also champion continuous improvement, mentor junior analysts and lift capcapability in the team.
With a focus on delivering to our customers, you will enjoy working across the Ministry to question what they are trying to see from the data and have exceptional communication expertise to present technical findings in plain English to a variety of audiences.
You will also offer:
   » a tertiary qualification in a quantitative field and at least eight years of business and data analysis practice
   » practice in manipulating large datasets using SAS, SQL or equivalent
   » the capability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangata whenuatanga
