As leaders of Aotearoa New Zealand’s environmental system we ensure tangata whenua are able to influence and lead the recovery of Aotearoa New Zealand’s environmental wellbeing.
At Manat? m? te Taiao (MfE), the focus of the T?matak?kiri r?p? is on ensuring we bring te Tiriti o Waitangi and te ao M?ori into our work every day, and plan for what actions need to happen, what systems need to change, and what skills we need in the Ministry to ensure we can achieve these things. Our core r?p? priorities include ensuring the Ministry upholds treaty settlement commitments, complies with the intent of the te Tiriti o Waitangi, and meets treaty partner expectations.

The Treaty Partnerships team is pleased to open up opportunities for Kait?tari Kaupapa Here Matua / Senior Policy Analysts. You will play a pivotal function in influencing and supporting the delivery of the Ministry’s objectives through dedicated engagement and partnership with range of M?ori groups, iwi and hap? – at national, regional and local levels – to progress te Tiriti negotiations and settlement commitments.
This is your opportunity to make a difference at the forefront of M?ori-Crown relationships where providing high quality, timely advice to Ministers will be an important aspect of the function. You will be able to navigate competing priorities and requests for information with our commitment to work with M?ori to co-produce policy and see te Tiriti reflected in environmental decision making. Particular knowledge and skills in preparing, superviseing and peer reviewing the drafting of high-quality advice will be invaluable.
You’ll be agile and adaptable by nature, motivated to share your knowledge and skills to lead a variety of complex and challenging projects, and willing to maanaki and mentor more junior colleagues through te Tiriti negotiation and settlement processes.

   » Commitment to developing your cultural capcapability and capacity in te ao M?ori;
   » An RMA planning or legal background;
   » practice with Treaty of Waitangi negotiations OR practice working with a range of iwi/hapu/M?ori groups at national, regional and local levels to progress settlement commitments;
   » Strong political nous and a good knowledge of the function of the public service;
   » Exceptional writing skills with practice of briefing Ministers and/or senior leaders;
   » The EQ required to undertake negotiations sensitively in a complex environment;
   » A collaborative nature and a availability to manaaki, coach and offer guidance to more junior team members; and
   » A significant tertiary qualification for e.g., in law, policy, planning or social sciences.
Wh?nuitanga Utu ?-Tau | income range
income range for this function is $101,802 up to $124,424 pa. Appointment within this range will be located on skills and practice.
