The position is be located in Palmerston North with clinical responsibilities in one or more of the regions covered by the Regional Cancer Treatment Service. candidates should be trained in Clinical Haematology and hold the appropriate vocational registrations with the Medical Council of New Zealand or be eligible to. MidCentral District Health Board provides clinical haematology, radiation oncology and medical oncology services to the District Health Boards that cover the communities of Manawatu, northern Wairarapa, Hawke's Bay, Whanganui and Taranaki. This is a combined population of 500,000. The position is to join an established haematology team of six SMOs and four RMOs. The service provides inpatient and outpatient haematology care and manages a wide variety of haematological conditions including acute leukaemia, lymphoma, autologus stem cell transplantation, plasma exchange, haemostatsis and thrombosis. Inpatient care is delivered at Palmerston North Hospital. Outpatient clinics are run at Palmerston North, Whanganui, Hawera, New Plymouth and Hawkes Bay. The department maintains an active clinical research portfolio including clinical trials. The service is an approved FRACP training center and undertakes active post graduate teaching at House agent, Senior House agent and Registrar level. Multi-disciplinary case meetings (Tumour Boards) are held locally and regionally. There is also an opportunity to undertake pathology work with MedLab Central, which is located at Palmerston North Hospital, as part this appointment.
