Competenz is a business division of Te P?kenga Work-located Learning Limited (formally New Zealand Institute of expertise and Technology). The creation of Te P?kenga was in response to the 2019 Government announcement that there would be key changes to the vocational education system, including on-the-job training. As part of this change Competenz is a highly effective, tertiary education provider, delivering broad classroom, digital, and on-the-job learning.

As part of the strategic plan, a new function has been established for a Pacific Lead, to provide strategic leadership abilities and to help enable the implementation of a Pacific business plan within the organisation. You will be responsible for guiding internal stakeholders and ultimately advising, influencing, and changing behaviours to become more representative and equitable of New Zealand's diverse Pacific communities. Developing project management, reporting and business plans within the Pacific space, you will be nurturing relationships with Pacific communities through Te P?kenga networks to support results for Pasifika. Leading organisational community engagement in alignment with Te P?kenga Pacific initiatives, you will be developing key relationships, plans, activities, and reports for Pacific development in conjunction with the Pacific Advisory group.
superviseing the development and delivery of internal cultural competency training, you will be seeking to increase staff confidence and knowledge when interacting within different Pacific communities, learners, and key stakeholders. The intent is to enable and facilitate connections with leaders across the NZ Pacific community, acting as a key influencer and driver of significant change across Competenz. Moreover, you will be ensuring the overall representation for Pacific improves, leveraging and influencing system settings, via proactive engagement.
Acting as a trusted advisor to the SLT, Pacific Advisory Group and the wider business, you will consult and educate on all significant Pacific matters and issues, presenting ideas and initiatives in support of driving parity of results for Pacific peoples. Furthermore, you will take real pride embedding Pacific perspectives into the greater organisation as you seek to increase consciousness, capcapability, and knowledge of Pacific communities to strengthen Pacific responsiveness.
Providing advice and guidance for the SLT and other staff members of how to engage appropriately with different Pacific groups, you will support the engagement and facilitation of Pacific groups including attending events, meetings, and presentations. Working closely with Careers Trades Advisors to engage Pacific groups for pipeline development purposes, you will be taking a lead function in driving collaborative external relationships to ensure Competenz is continuously aligned across Te P?kenga and the wider workforce development sector.

This position requires significant practice in a position where you have demonstrated relationship building with the Pacific community across both strategic and operational levels of engagement.

Reporting to the General Manager – Employer and Learner practice, you will be preparing and presenting business cases and reports, scoping/developing proposals for projects, as well as managing project delivery as required. Effectively embedding and managing the change process, you will call on your past practice, where you have prosperously managed organisational culture change. Leading programmes of work that address and facilitate internal and external communication with the Pacific stakeholders on trends and developments and the implications for Competenz. Well respected and networked within Pacific community, you will lead with superior cultural competency, and support the use of language expertise.
