About our group and team The Early Learning and Student Achievement (ELSA) group is a key part of the Ministry, with over 300 staff. Information technology sets system-level learning standards and supports education leaders to lift progress and achievement for all children and young people. The group achieves this by advising on New Zealand’s curricula, the provision of personalised learning pathways, and a quality and sustainable education workforce. It’s an exciting time to work in ELSA – we’re implementing a new curriculum centre as part of the Ministry establishing a new education service agency that will change how we interact and support schools. At the heart of our work is making sure that every day, in every early learning service, k?hanga reo, school, and kura, the education workforce and curriculum delivery is world class, and focused on what New Zealanders need for their best future. About this function The Senior Advisor – Strategy, Planning and Investment sits within the Office of the Deputy Secretary. this function takes a lead in providing advice and delivery support for ELSA which encompasses planning, delivery, monitoring, and reporting with a focus on the business lifecycle process to manage achievement of the long term business performance. this function also involves developing strategic investment advice, and provides project and programme management skills to support effective practice across ELSA to enable prosperously delivery of the group’s objectives. About you The preferred candidate would be someone that has a passion for education but also has strong management practice and can work with multiple different stakeholders across the business to achieve our desired results. The overall group has seen significant growth in the past year, and Information technology would suit someone that has a systems mindset and is able to build and grow on what has already been put in place. You will also offer: » strong internal and external relationship management that extends to ministers, senior managers and Deputy Secretaries » prior practice record of leading strategically to develop and implement strategy and aligns with their team’s business » practice in promoting and enhancing organisational performance and foster a continuous improvement culture » practice leading and applying programme/project management principles and systems » the capability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangata whenuatanga.
