M? m?tou | About us The Office of the Children's Commissioner is an Independent Crown Entity, appointed by the Governor-General, carrying out responsibilities and functions set out in the Children's Commissioner Act 2003. On 1 July 2023, the Office of the Children's Commissioner will become a new entity - the Children and Young People’s Commission. Staff of the current Office of the Children’s Commissioner, including this function, will transfer into the Commission to deliver its responsibilities for advocating for mokopuna and monitoring important aspects of government's treatment of them. M? te t?nga | About the function As a Kairaranga Mokopuna and Wh?nau you will provide technical skills and support to ensure culturally appropriate approaches to building strong relationships, engaging and communicating with mokopuna and their wh?nau, hap?, iwi, and M?ori organisations. In this highly collaborative function, you will need the skills and capability to work across the tari and the wider sector in a way that is grounded in m?tauranga M?ori and puts mokopuna at the centre of everything you do. As a Kairaranga Mokopuna and Wh?nau you will support Managers to identify m?tauranga development needs for the team and provide mentoring and guidance to team members to help kaimahi develop in their function. Ng? p?manawatanga ?u | What you will bring You will be an expert in your field, with broad practice working in child engagement and participation or child and wh?nau-related policy development. skills and practice in advocating with, and for, mokopuna M?ori and working from a te ao M?ori worldview is highly desirable. Your will have excellent relationship skills with the confidence to build and maintain network across the public and child wellbeing sectors. You will be able to communicate strategically, being adept at advocating and influencing. Your strong written and verbal communication skills will mean that you can communicate complex information clearly. The prosperous candidate will also have: » Demonstrated excellence in building relationships and engaging with mokopuna, wh?nau, hap? and iwi » prosperous practice in undertaking monitoring and/or specialist interviewing, with practice in undertaking these activities from a m?tauranga Maori perspective » M?tauranga M?ori with proficiency in Te Reo M?ori and Tikanga M?ori » Strongly demonstrated analytical skills with the capability to synthesise information, draw conclusions and make recommendations.
