Te Maioha o Parekarangi Youth Justice Residence Rotorua
Can you work rostered shifts – early mornings, late evenings, weekends or public holidays?
Can you provide positive engagement, function-modelling and motivation for at-risk rangatahi?
Do you demonstrate resilience, relicapability, honesty and common-sense?
What is Te Maioha o Parekarangi Youth Justice Residence?
Te Maioha o Parekarangi Youth Justice Residence, just outside Rotorua, is surrounded by beautiful countryside, yet is only 10 minutes from the city centre. Our Residence is supported by the Parekarangi Trust and we are located on their farmland with a rural outlook. We care for up to 30 young men aged 13 to 17 years old who are involved with the Youth Justice system.

   » A work/life balance – casuals can option to be available for work either AM, PM or night shifts any day of the week to suit individual (convenient for those studying and/or only available for part-time work)

What you will do:
   » Coach rangatahi through our structured day
   » Participate in physical activity with our young people by playing sports and taking part in gym activities
   » Support our rangatahi by helping them with their studies, teaching them life expertise such as cooking, art, music and cultural programmes and mentor them to make positive life choices
   » Build rapport with rangatahi who have practiced trauma and assist with redirecting behaviour
What you will require:
   » A full, clean, valid driver’s licence
   » To meet the Vulnerable Children’s Act safety checking and Oranga Tamariki vetting requirements
   » A valid Visa – New Zealand Residency or Citizenship
   » Resilience, initiative and proactive approach with a positive outlook
   » An advantage would be a tertiary education within psychology, social sciences, social work, sports or teaching – transferable life expertise also considered
   » Flexibility to be available for different shifts – mornings, evenings, weeks and public holidays
   » Physically able to keep up with teenage boys
   » Life practice and knowledge of trauma in young people
   » Excellent verbal and written communication expertise with the capability to adapt to your audience
   » Knowledge of Tikanga and Te Reo would be an advantage
