Senior Advisor (Communications) – Operations and Implementation
About our group
The Secondary Tertiary team sits within the Early Learning and Student Achievement Group (ELSA) and covers the transition from senior secondary through to tertiary and employment.
ELSA works tomake learning and teaching significant, real and valued. We deliver and maintain critical services for the education sector to support responsive learner pathways from early childhood into further education, training, the workforce and society. ELSA performs a crucial function working between the strategy and policy teams, and the sector facing functions. The Secondary Tertiary team is responsible for operational policy, curriculum and support programmes for Year 11-13 learners, and the secondary-tertiary interface. This includes senior secondary curriculum, NCEA (including the continuing NCEA Review and preparing for the Review of Achievement Standards) and secondary-tertiary programmes.
Senior Advisor function
The Operations and Implementation team in Secondary Tertiary has a key function in implementing the NCEA change programme. They work with, students, parents and whanau, the education sector, employers and the wider community to understand, design and deliver the implementation support needed to prosperously embed, change and strengthen NCEA.
The Senior Adviser (Communications) contributes to these aspects of the implementation of the NCEA change programme. They work with the Principal Adviser (Communications) to prepare communications for the Secondary Tertiary team. The function contributes to the work of the wider Secondary Tertiary team and the intention and principles of the change programme, as well as the goals and priorities of the Ministry.
About the person
The person we seek will be agile and adept at handling ambiguity and complexity. Our ideal candidate will take pride in producing high quality work, be an innovative thinker, have leadership abilities expertise and will be comfortable working independently to achieve defined objectives. The person will be sensitive to cultural values and have a good knowledge of the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
They will have sharp interpersonal expertise, superior writing expertise, and will be comfortable working with a diverse range of stakeholders and representing the Ministry.
practice and qualifications
Candidates will have ideally have:
   » practice in communications
   » good knowledge of the diversity of learners undertaking NCEA, in particular the needs of priority groups, including Maori and Pacific learners
   » capability to confidently and appropriately engage with a range of stakeholders from different cultures and backgrounds
   » practice engaging in different contexts and cultural settings
   » knowledge of machinery of government.
