The prosperous candidate for this function will contribute to inter-disciplinary research and teaching that falls within the framework of ki uta ki tai, recognising and encapsulating the holistic interconnectedness of the environment, including the land, water, air, flora, fauna, people and the wellbeing of manawhenua and our other communities.
Our name in te reo M?ori – Te Iho Whenua – speaks of the pivotal relationship between people and the earth (Papat??nuku). Our continued focus on the interwoven human and physical processes that together constitute the environment makes us one of the most prosperous Geography units in New Zealand. The function – Te mahi
The appointee will teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses inphysicalgeography, with additional contributions to courses in environmental management, and foster postgraduate research at Masters and PhD levels.
Undertaking service and your own research are expectations of the position.

The prosperous candidate is expected to have a PhD in Physical Geography. Your mahi must be in the area of M?ori or Pacific Indigenous environmental knowledge and you must be able to demonstrate a record of high-quality research, teaching and community engagement in m?tauranga M?ori or Pacific approaches.
candidates with competencies/knowledges of the broad area of the physical processes driving the relationships between water, land, biota and people are specifically encouraged to apply.
We would also value candidates with expertise in using state-of-the-art computing to interpret and visualise geographic data, using geostatistics and/or new field techniques that enable the knowledge of ki uta ki tai to be advanced.
In addition, the prosperous candidate will ideally possess a number of the following expertise and practice:
   » Demonstrated capability to engage with te ao M?ori, tikanga M?ori, Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Kaupapa M?ori methodologies.
   » Demonstrated proficiency in delivering high-quality Physical Geography teaching and environmental management programmes, and capability to contribute their own specialist courses.
   » An capability to supervise postgraduate research students.
   » An capability to contribute to teaching and learning environments that support engagement of students and staff with te ao M?ori, te reo M?ori and m?tauranga M?ori.
   » An excellent international research profile along with a commitment to and/or established connections with international and/or national researchers.
   » A commitment to being a productive collaborator with a track record of working collegially.
