Our team is responsible for the data and modelling required for New Zealand’s climate mitigation targets and budgets, and developing greenhouse gas emission projections. Our work will ensure a robust evidence base for the second Emissions Reduction Plan due by 31 December 2024, respond to the Climate Change Commission’s advice on emissions budgets and our targets, and will play an important function in developing our second international climate change target (NDC2), which will be set in 2025. We also provide a quality assurance function for climate modelling across Government through the Climate Impact Policy Assessment (CIPA). We are seeking for innovative, practiced and adaptable people with the technical expertise and engagement expertise to support Aotearoa New Zealand’s climate action. Our work will help reduce emissions across Aotearoa New Zealand and contribute to the global effort to limit temperature rise to 1.5 ?C. Of the two functions available; » one will focus on the development of NDC2 and could suit Somebody with a background in climate science » one will suit Somebody with modelling expertise and could suit Somebody with a background in economics. You will lead the delivery of specific aspects of our work programme, including holding project level relationships with others. Additionally, you’ll play an important function in coaching and mentoring analysts in the team. Our work is fast paced and dynamic, in this function you will work closely with policy teams, across agencies and support advice to ministers.
