A newly established function within the organisation, as Head of Risk and Assurance you will be pivotal in providing strategic leadership abilities together with delivering a roadmap for the risk and assurance function at Toit? Te Whenua. Reporting directly to the Kaihaut? Organisational Effectiveness, you will be responsible for building essential relationships and offering proactive, advice to the Chief Executive, Kaihaut? (Executive leadership abilities Team), and the Risk and Assurance Committee.
As the Head of Risk and Assurance you understand the significant value that effective enterprise risk and assurance functions add to any organisation. A key marker of success in the function will be your capability to create and foster enduring relationships located on credibility and trust. These relationships will allow you to elevate your discussions above core ?risk' activities and instead explore ways of future proofing success for the organisation by leading and championing innovating development. You will create a culture of risk-consciousness and organisational knowledge to achieve our objectives and improve performance and resilience. You will also lead an internal assurance function which enhances and protects organisational value by providing risk-located and objective assurance, advice and insight.
Your customer and business focussed leadership abilities will guide the Risk and Assurance team to deliver a multi-disciplinary approach to evaluate and enhance the effectiveness of risk management, control, governance processes, and regulatory assurance. This encompasses climate related risk and supporting the work to address our emissions profile. You will also be responsible for ensuring Toit? Te Whenua has effective incident management and business continuity practices and protocols.
 
Your key responsibilities include:
• Lead the relationship with the Risk and Assurance Committee, collaborating with the Chair and Chief Executive to set meeting agendas and conduct.
• Develop and maintain the integrity of the Risk and Assurance charter and internal audit methodology.
• Ensure the effectiveness and integrity of the Internal Audit function.
• Create and execute an annual internal audit program in collaboration with key stakeholders, applying best practices across all technical disciplines.
• Define and implement an Enterprise Risk Framework strategy (e.g., operational, business continuity, fraud risk) to align with Toit? Te Whenua's strategic priorities, supported by user-friendly tools and approaches.
• Provide strategic leadership abilities and direction for Toit? Te Whenua's risk and assurance needs while establishing and operationalising risk reporting processes and metrics, including crisis-situation tests, within Toit? Te Whenua.

As a leader in the organisation, you will foster a risk-conscious culture by encouraging decision-makers to incorporate a risk-oriented perspective into their decision making.
You will have broad practice in internal audit and risk management, underpinned by a deep knowledge of internal control and risk management principles. Your success will be determined by your capability to demonstrate sound knowledge of internal audit and risk management frameworks, along with your practice in implementing best practice principles and techniques, and partnership approach to achieve excellence in risk management all over the organisation. As a leader you have demonstrated a strong customer centric approach with a focus on user-friendly ways of working and you are committed to growing the capcapability of the people you lead and the organisation. Although not essential, practice as a Certified Internal Auditor and membership with the Institute of Internal Auditors (NZ) Inc is useful.
You will have commitment to Toit? Te Whenua's function as a Te Tiriti o Waitangi partner and you will be comfortable incorporating Te Tiriti principles in all areas of your work and support staff as part of the organisation's growing cultural consciousness and knowledge.
