The Position
The Clinical Research Unit (CRU) is part of the Wellington Blood and Cancer Centre and operates under the governance of the Clinical Research Committee who act as a Board of Trustees for the trust funds financing research activities. Staff in the unit coordinate pharmaceutical industry and clinical practice group clinical trials. The staff who are comprised of registered nurses and allied health professionals, also undertake protocol preparation, submissions to regulatory bodies and completion of documentation to ensure compliance with Ministry of Health guidelines and legislations, and appropriate national/international regulations. The Unit works in collaboration with the Clinical Trials Unit.

The function holder will be able to work well independently and as an integral part of a team, both clinically and in a managerial capacity. They will have the capability to collect accurate clinical, medical and lifestyle information, mobilise resources and plan care to meet the individual needs of the participants. A function of the function is to assist physicians and scientist in monitoring the health responses of patients during a new drug or therapy trial. This will include recoding physical assessments and vital signs; administration of the investigated compounds or therapies and to coordinate research activities.
You
• Minimum 4 years general nursing ideally within knowledge and practice in Medical Oncology, Haematology or Radiation Therapy.
• Record of working prosperously in a New Zealand located clinical trial environment.
• Evidence of recent hospital practice and skills.
• Proven phlebotomy and IV cannulation skills is desirable.
• capability to execute ECG assessments is desirable.
• Advanced Information technology used with proficiency in MS office (Excel, Powerpoint, MS Office) package.
• Evidence of previous practice of clinical trial documentation and GCP (Good Clinical Practice).
• Demonstrate knowledge of ethics in relation to clinical research.
• Demonstrable practice in giving oral presentations.
The Package
An excellent income is available, plus bonuses; working Monday to Friday starting at 8am with close proximity to public transport, several opportunities for further career advancement and personal development, on the job training. Report to a great management team. Orientation as research practice is not required.
