Ko wai m?tou? – Who are we? The Controller and Auditor-General is a statutory agent of Parliament. The function is a constitutional safeguard to maintain the financial integrity of New Zealand's parliamentary system of government. The Auditor-General provides independent assurance to Parliament and the public, that public entities are operating and accounting for their performance as Parliament intended. The Auditor-General employs staff in two business units – the Office of the Auditor-General (OAG) and Audit New Zealand, with a shared Corporate Services team (CST). The organisation is collectively referred to as the Office. Te ?hua o Te T?runga – The nature of the position The intent and rationale of this position is to provide strategic leadership abilities, advice, and guidance for the Office to increase the impact of its work through effective engagement with M?ori. Working with the leadership abilities team, you will be accountable for guiding and advising the Office as Information technology develops and implements its strategy to build organisational knowledge of te ao M?ori and M?ori cultural capcapability. You will be a trusted advisor to the Auditor-General and Deputy Auditor-General, and to the Project Sponsor for the strategy. Ensuring that the strategy and plan is appropriately reflective of te ao M?ori perspectives and principles, you will provide advice about when and how to seek input from M?ori to inform strategy development and work programme planning. You will also take the lead in the establishment of enduring relationships between the Office and M?ori stakeholders more generally, supporting the Auditor-General, the Deputy Auditor-General and members of the leadership abilities team to confidently engage with M?ori. You will build continuing consciousness and champion M?tauranga M?ori, tikanga, and te reo across the Office, and provide expert advice to support high-quality audit and inquiry practices and results. Accustomed to working with public entities, senior public officials, and Parliamentary Select Committees you will have the practice and networks to assist the Office to connect with a wide variety of significant stakeholders. For example, you will have already fostered a connection with iwi leaders, M?ori community leaders, and kaupapa M?ori organisations and be seeking to leverage and grow these in your new function. Ng? tino P?kenga/Wheako – Essential expertise/practices for the function Ideally, previous practice working in or with the public sector to build practice and knowledge of M?ori perspectives is required alongside the following; » Proficiency in te reo me ?na tikanga and significant practice engaging with iwi, hap?, wh?nau, and M?ori communities. » Well-developed people leadership abilities expertise, with the capability to connect people and build relationships across organisations. » In-depth knowledge of te Tiriti of Waitangi, its principles, and its application to the public sector. » practice working with senior leaders to influence change alongside excellent interpersonal and relationship building expertise, with the proven capability to influence and enable change. » capability to providespecialist cultural advice and guidance and proven capcapability to empower and enhance the mana of others by bringing people together, reinforced with the expertise to influence, persuade, and inspire. » Demonstrated capability to engage at all levels and in varying leadership abilities styles, in order to drive pragmatic solutions. » Excellent written and verbal communication expertise with the capability to be able to present to a variety of audiences.
