About our group and team
The Special Projects team is currently implementing two high profile projects for the Ministry of suitable education Ka Ora, Ka Ako – healthy school lunches programme and Ikura – manaakitia te whare tangata that provides access to period products in schools.
This work is already proving to have a significant impact for our ?konga. We have taken a regionally-led, nationally supported approach to implementing the programmes to emphasise community partnerships, work flexibly and be able to offer local solutions.
The team consists of around 25 regionally located staff who manage relationships with schools, kura and suppliers, with a support team that include Nutritionists, Programme Coordinators, Senior Advisors and other support functions.
About this function
The Nutritionist contributes to a programme of work to support and promote the Ministry of Health’s healthy eating guidelines, and to ensure the Ka Ora, Ka Ako programme is consistently aligned with the guidelines.
Responsibilities will include the following:
   » Develop and maintain guidance material to ensure the Ka Ora, Ka Ako programme meets the Ministry of Health healthy food guidelines
   » Support schools, kura and suppliers to apply the guidelines as they develop and implement the provision of lunches
   » Work with regional Senior Advisors to implement the monitoring programme to ensure suppliers (and internal model schools and kura) are meeting the healthy food guidelines
About you
You will have a significant qualification as a nutritionist (or Dietician) and you will have a significant level of practical practice.
You will also offer the following:
   » The capability to analyse nutrition information and provide advice to a wide variety of audiences
   » practice working and delivering to tight deadlines
   » practice facilitating and leading groups of experts and communicating clearly with non-technical audiences
   » Knowledge of working in schools and kura
   » knowledge of the machinery of government
