Ka mihi ki ng? uri o te rohe nei, ratou e noho ana ki runga i te whenua o Te ?poko o te Ika a Maui! Nau mai, haramai! Nau mai, hoki mai ki a Kia Mau!
Ko te reo M?ori, kia mau is a call to hold fast. Kia Mau is about us all. Here. Now. Kia Mau Festival is a biennial, contemporary M?ori, Pasifika and international Indigenous live and digital performance practice.
Created and led by tangata whenua and tangata Moana artists from Aotearoa, Kia Mau Festival is very proud to lead our inaugural Kia Mau Festival Production expertise Course. Taking place at Te Auaha in Te Whanganui-a-Tara in late July 2022, we are now sharing this kaupapa and calling out for expressions of interest.
Our first intake is for nga iwi M?ori live performance practitioners, of various skill levels and practice. This inaugural training programme has been designed to benefit practitioners across the artforms of theatre, dance and live performance. This course is for directors, performers, writers, designers, producers, choreographers, technicians, arts administrators and more. By teaching foundational expertise and using self-directed task-located exercises, the goal is to encourage practitioners to adapt these practices to suit the specific needs of the work they do.
Kia Mau is proudly led by Artistic Director and Chief Executive Hone Kouka (Ng?ti Porou, Ng?ti Raukawa, Ng?ti Kahungunu), Executive Director M?ria George (Tumutevarovaro, Enuamanu, Cook Islands; Ng?ti Kearoa, Ng?ti Tuara; Ng?ti Awa) and General Manager Dolina Wehipeihana (Ng?ti Raukawa, Ng?ti Tukorehe). The Kia Mau Festival Production expertise Course is designed and delivered by Emily Hakaraia (Ng?ti Raukawa, Ng?ti Kapumanawawhiti), Natasha James, James Kearney and Will Harris.
We invite Expressions of Interest to attend our inaugural Production expertise Course to be held at Te Auaha, Te Whanganui-a-Tara; Wellington. Our ideal candidates have some practice staging a show - this is about elevating your craft, not starting from scratch.
