Our multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary staff, students, research and teaching is reflected in our name Te Tumu, a pan-Polynesian term which is often used in M?ori in the phrase te tumu herenga waka – a post for tying up canoes. We liken ourselves as a foundation which staff, students and guests can anchor themselves to for the duration of their stay at the University of Otago. Our School offers undergraduate and postgraduate study to PhD level in three programmes: M?ori Studies, Pacific Islands Studies, and Indigenous Development, as well as the Master of Indigenous Studies, tailored especially for distance students. Our staff have established reputations in their areas of skills and the programme as a whole has an energetic research culture. The function We are seeking for a Teaching Fellow to provide support to Te Tumu’s teaching of module 2 in POPH192, under the supervision of the academic colleagues responsible for course design and delivery. In this function, you will be required to: » Be actively involved in the preparation of teaching materials. » Deliver tutorials and workshops. » Undertake assessment and administration tasks for the module. Your skills and practice To be prosperous in this function you will have: » Bachelor's degree minimum, ideally holding or studying towards a higher degree in a significant subject area. » Well organised with practice working with University of Otago computer systems. » Effective written and verbal communication skills. » Aptitude for effective teaching at tertiary level. » capability to work effectively as a member of a team and independently. » Able to maintain a professional approach with both staff and students while under pressure. » Evidence of an capability to work well with students and staff from differing academic and cultural backgrounds and at all levels of the institution.
