Te Pouahi o Te Taitokerau Trust is seeking dynamic and practiced Trustees and Project Control Group Members.
Trustees (x5)
   » located in the Northland region.
The Trust is a kaupapa-M?ori led housing initiative that supports whanau, hap?, and iwi-M?oriin Te Taitokerau to build their own homes, providing practical solutions to navigateprocesses and mitigate housing development issues for wh?nau in the area. The Trust supportsM?ori-led housing projects to build their own homes so that the health and wellbeing of wh?naucontinues to strengthen now and into the future.
The prosperous Trustees will be joining the Trust at a critical time, as they have are about to sign a$55M Agreement with Te T??papa K?ra K?inga and Te Puni K?kiri to support wh?nau tobuild their own homes in their own way. This includes building at least 80 new homes and providinginfrastructure to support the development of at least 110 homes by 30 June 2025.
The Trust Board will consist of five Trustees who can serve up to a term of three years. Trustees needexpertise and competencies in housing, financing, and wh?nau/hap?/iwi landscapes, as well as strongcommunication expertise and ideally governance practice in a board environment. Trustees will beexpected to be collaborative, effective communicators, and willing to devote time and energy to thefunction and kaupapa. You will act with honesty, integrity, and in good faith, and not at the expense ofthe Trust’s interests.
We are seeking for diverse expertise sets and practice across the board and are seeking Trusteeswho collectively bring expertise and competencies in the housing, financing, and wh?nau/hap?/iwi landscapes(amongst others), and who can demonstrate practice in strategic planning, policy development,and relationship building with key stakeholders.
The collective tasks of Trustees are to ensure that the trust acts consistently with its objectives,functions, and strategic intent, and that the trust functions are performed efficiently, effectively, andin a manner consistent with the spirit of service to Te Taitokerau wh?nau, hap?, and iwi, and in afinancially responsible manner.
Independent Programme Control Group Trust members (x2)
As a Programme Control Group (PCG) member, you will supervise the implementation of the K?ingaProjects. This involves reviewing and approving annual operational budgets, evaluating fundingrequests for different phases of the programme, negotiating, and recommending terms for projectfunding agreements, evaluating progressive home ownership models, monitoring projects, andpreparing monthly and six-monthly reports for the Crown. You will also assess the vicapability ofdifferent projects that come through for consideration using the Te Pouahi Project AssessmentFramework, negotiating funding agreements and evaluating Progressive Home Ownership modelproposals, and make recommendations for the entire board to consider.
The PCG is also responsible for calculating drawdown amounts and proposing any necessary changesto the programme. The overarching purpose is to supervise and guide the arrangements, to enableand support delivery of the programme, to consider significant funding requests and information toendorse K?inga Projects for an investment decision by the Board. Evaluating journey readiness andinvestment compliance, will see you evaluating proposals using Te Pouahi Project AssessmentFramework, negotiating funding agreements and evaluating Progressive Home Ownership modelproposals. Furthermore, you will be accountable for approving sale or transfer of Affordable Rentals, agreeing to construction loan terms and ensuring allocation of funds meets requirements to enableoverall success of the Te Pouahi Programme.
Ideal candidates will have a background in housing, finance, or a related field with an knowledgeof M?tauranga M?ori, tikanga and kawa. You should have strong communication expertise and be able towork collaboratively with other board members, staff, and community members.
The PCG meets at least monthly, ideally 10 working days before each Te Pouahi Trust Board meeting. Fees will be paidon a per hui basis which incorporates an allowance for preparation and follow up actions for eachhui.
