We have one permanent, full-time position as part of the Government’s emphasis on System Transformation and are looking for a diverse team of Connectors, Specialist Connectors and Senior Connectors to work with disabled people and wh?nau in the mid-Central region located in Palmerston North.
Senior Connector
As a Senior Connector you will provide leadership abilities, mentoring and guidance for Connectors and Specialist Connectors to increase their expertise to support disabled people and wh?nau achieve results that are important to them.
This pivotal team are essential to the Enabling Good Lives approach and makes a significant positive impact on the lives of disabled people, wh?nau and communities. The team is diverse, and proactively aims to reflect the population we serve.
The team works together to assist disabled people and wh?nau to think about options, create possibilities and make decisions about their lives and the resources and connections that would enable them to attain their life objectives. We work proactively in people’s homes, provider organisations, schools and communities to develop relationships with disabled people and wh?nau, and assist them to be aspirational in planning and directing their own lives.
The Discapability Directorate within the Ministry of Health provides leadership abilities and stewardship to the discapability sector to ensure an equitable, fair and sustainable support system that delivers on the Government’s priorities for people with a discapability.
As a team we work as an ally who assists a disabled person and their family to dream big, make a plan for the future and connect with their local community. this function makes a significant contribution to the transformation of the discapability system, and enables disabled people and wh?nau to have more choice and control over the lives they lead and the supports they use

To be prosperous, you will bring the following:

   » practice supporting people to think creatively about their life opportunities and how to bring these opportunities into being
   » practice building and maintaining trusting relationships with a diverse range of people from diverse backgrounds, in particular the capability to connect with young people
   » Strong connections to, and knowledge of, the local community as well as the capacity and resources within it
   » Links within the communities we serve, including M?ori, Pasifika, Rainbow (LGTBI+) people, those new to New Zealand and / or Deaf culture
   » Excellent communication expertise and capability to adapt your method of communicating to the situation and person
   » Self management, capability to work independently with a high workload in complex circumstances
   » practice and knowledge in engaging with M?ori and Pasifika families
The Ministry of Health is the kaitiaki of the health and discapability system in New Zealand. We are responsible for providing active stewardship and leadership abilities across the nations health and discapability system. We ensure the system provides people with the highest levels of care, regardless of who they are or where they live.
