   » Provide monitoring and governance and performance advice to Minister of Conservation and DOC, and relating to entities within the minister’s conservation portfolio to support best practice governance and performance.

DOC is seeking a skilled and practiced senior governance advisor, to take a lead function in superviseing the performance of entities and boards across the Crown’s conservation portfolio. Through this function, you will be given a significant opportunity to grow and progress your career, alongside working on high profile and challenging issues.
You will work closely with the manager to ensure the team delivers work programmes across the Crown’s conservation portfolio, using your expertise to lead, inspire, develop, and build overall capcapability of the team. You will have significant exposure with ministers, chief executives and boards to support the delivery of the Government’s conservation priorities, supervise the performance of the conservation agencies, and ultimately help drive performance over the long-term.
The position will be focussed on:
   » advising ministers, chief executives, and other senior decision makers to help deliver improved results across DOC and its partners
   » drafting responses to ministerial requests, parliamentary questions and requests for information under the Official Information Act
   » contributing to team planning processes, and the development of strategies and work programmes to enhance overall effectiveness of entity monitoring.

In this fast paced and exciting function, you will bring an capability to see the big picture, with strong analytical expertise that enable you to effectively advise ministers, chief executives and senior decision makers. Your innovative thinking will help shape the work programme and identify new approaches.
You will need to have strong expertise in developing high quality and concise advice for Ministers, along with the confidence to engage with chief executives and boards. You may have a background in crown entity monitoring or specific expertise in regulatory, policy, funding and/or commercial.
If you have the following attributes, we are keen to hear from you:
   » able to demonstrate an knowledge of key financial and non-financial information to support the development of advice
   » critical thinking expertise located on logic and evidence
   » able to balance competing interests and apply a political lens to entity performance on behalf of the minister
   » able to interpret legislation and its implications for crown entities
   » sound knowledge of commercial and crown entity corporate management, governance requirements and directors’ risks
   » highly developed interpersonal expertise, relationship building, and collaborative approaches
   » excellent written and verbal communication expertise
   » capability to work in a dynamic environment with strong prioritisation expertise and a continuous improvement mentality
   » a significant tertiary qualification, or equivalent practice.
Desirable
   » consciousness of M?tauranga M?ori, knowledge of basic protocols.
