Chief Policy Analyst/Principal Policy Analyst – International Division

This is an opportunity to lead the Ministry’s advice on the next steps for international education following the Government’s announcements around borders reopening.
The Ministry’s function in international education offers exciting challenges for policy professionals. Our work sits across social and economic policy, and we work closely with other government agencies including TEC, MFAT, MBIE, INZ and ENZ, among others.
The International Education Policy team leads the Ministry’s policy advice to deliver systemic change that increases cultural diversity within our education system alongside maximising the social and economic benefits for New Zealand.
The international education sector has been significantly impacted over the last two years and we have a work programme guided by the refreshed New Zealand International Education Strategy 2022-2030 (recently announced by Minister Hipkins and currently out for public consultation). Core parts of the work programme include embedding what “value” means for the international education sector, exploring the future of international education in primary and intermediate schools, regulatory change affecting existing levies and fees, progressing an outbound mobility strategy, supporting reciprocal exchange agreements, leading advice to progress the wellbeing of international students in New Zealand and ensuring we follow the Codes of Practice significant to international students. You will be leading or supporting these workstreams and providing business as usual advice to Ministers.

We’re looking to bolster our policy team and are opening an exciting opportunity for a Chief Policy Analyst/Principal Policy Analyst. We’re looking for analysts who are comfortable in leading policy projects including authoring advice to our Ministers. You will bring a solid background in thought leadership abilities and strategic advice.
