We have a unique opportunity for a Senior Advisor to join our Resource Management (RM) Reform - Transition and Implementation team within MfE’s Policy Implementation and Delivery(PID) r?p?.
PID leads the planning and management of policy implementation, bringing together integrated partnerships iwi/M?ori, partner agencies, local government, councils, industry and the scientific community to achieve collaborative, transformational delivery of environmental reforms.

Ensuring a smooth transition to, and effective implementation of the future RM system, is critical to achieving the objectives of the RM reform.In this function you will work with a diverse and multi-disciplinary team of policy implementation professionals to deliver a programme of work to implement the resource management reforms.
You will be working on the first tranche region project, which will help facilitate a prosperous transition to the new system. This involves working with a selected region (iwi/M?ori and local government) and central government agencies operating in the region to develop the first Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS), followed by a Natural and Built Environments Act (NBA) combined plan. This will test and demonstrate the new spatial strategy and plan-making processes and provide learnings for other regions that follow.
Your skills from a policy implementation perspective, and practice working with iwi/M?ori and local government will be invaluable. You will bring elements of pragmatism and agility to your function to effectively contribute to positive results, whilst gaining a wealth of knowledge and exposure to significant policy reform with an implementation lens. You will work in close collaboration with colleagues and teams across MfE, including other RM reform teams. The nature of our working environment can be fast-paced and often ambiguous, so your flexibility and adaptcapability to navigate multiple priorities and a changing environment is critical.

   » Environmental planning practice at a senior level or practice as a laywer operating in resource management;
   » Strong stakeholder management and engagements skills across diverse groups, including practice engaging with M?ori and local government;
   » Strong analytical skills, curiosity and problem-solving with the capability to apply a range of frameworks to analysis;
   » A pragmatic and agile systems-thinking approach - you have the capability to think strategically across systems and effectively navigate and deliver against multiple competing priorities;
   » Exceptional writing skills - you can effectively tailor communications to suit varying audiences;
   » Demonstrated project management or delivery skills, with the capability to identify and manage risks; and
   » Some knowledge of machinery of government and legislative reform.
Resource Management practice / an academic qualification in planning or law, or proven environmental planning practice is highly desirable.

income range for this function is $105,802 up to $128,424 pa. Appointment within this range will be located on skills and practice.
