The2022 Aotearoa New Zealand Festival of the Artsis seeking twoTechnical Operators tooperateprojection, sound, and lightsfor thehigh-techlive practiceDestination Marscreated by Kip Chapman & BradKnewstubb(HACKMAN).The production takes place in a dome-like environment with the audience seated in a full circle at interactive consoles,and iscreated onthe Unreal Gaming Engineplatform.The 30-45-minute practiceruns multiple times a day between the hours of 10am and 6pm.
The Operatorwill responsible for setting up and operatingall technicalelements, contribute to the smooth running of the production multiple times per day, complete everyday reports, and take responsibility for Health & Safety.Efficiency and capability to problem-solve when needed is key to make sure this schedule runs to time and with appropriate breaks.
The function is Wellington-located,starting late November 2021 to April 2022andthe Operatorwill contractedto work four days on, four days offwithina pre-arranged schedule.This is a rare opportunity to have evenings free in the performing arts industry. You must be available to work all over the Christmas / New Year period.
Keyresponsibilities
   »
Sole operator for theprojection,sound,and lighting required to run the show.The show has been scoped for a single operator to run all cues required.
   »
contactwith the Production Manager and work with the creative team to ensure the smooth running ofDestination Mars.;
   »
Work alongside thekey creatives, performers, venueand suppliers to ensure slickdelivery of shows.;
   »
Take responsibility for all Health and Safety issues in relation to the running ofDestination Mars, and reporting any accidents/incidentsin a timely manner.;
   »
Ensure show reports are filled out at the end of every show day.;
   »
Report all issues to Production Manager.
Please note thatTechnical Operators will be in-world and visible by audience, thusrequiredto wear clothing provided that fits that world.

2 years industry practice

practice operating Lighting/Audio/Vision for theatre shows

practice and in-depth expertise ofQlab

capability to troubleshoot technical issues quickly

The key capabilities of the function are:
Technical Proficiency
Youare required toset-up andoperateprojection, sound, and lighting cues viaQLab. You should also be able to troubleshoot technical issues quickly. practice and in-depth expertise ofQLabis essential.
Teamwork & Collaboration
In ahigh-pressureenvironment,we rely on respectful relationships with each other.You will contribute to the team by working closely, constructively,creatively,and confidently, and be an active and effective communicator.Contractedperformersarealso on schedules of four days on - four days off.
Reporting
Accurate and intuitive reporting ofeach day's events - including technical, performance, and audience notes - isrequired.A template will be provided by theFestival.
Professionalism& Patience
Working on our festivals and events can be high-pressure but exciting. Being able to remain level-headed andjugglecompeting priorities in thisschedule-driven function is critical. Duringproduction week, work hoursmayvary day-to-day and can be long. During the season,the minimum number of performances is five, with twomore performancesavailable for sale if there is popular demand. Occasionalearly eveningperformances may berequiredasspecial eventsand communicated well in advance.
