Education Infrastructure Service (EIS), a part of the Ministry of Education, manages the Crown’s second largest property portfolio of around 2,100 schools with a book value of $19.6 billion, the largest payroll in the country, and transportation of over 100,000 students to and from school each day.
Our vision for school property is that all schools have quality learning environments as part of a well-managed and sustainable portfolio that helps deliver equitable and excellent results for every child.
Through EIS, the Ministry is committed to strengthening its asset management capcapability to support achieving the Ministry’s strategy and the Government’s objectives.
About the function
It’s an exciting time to join the Strategic Asset Management team. We are a small and collaborative team, focused on leading continuous improvement in the asset management space.
The function has been created to support implementation of Te Rautaki Rawa Kura – The School Property Strategy and will have a focus on lifting asset management capcapability across EIS. The work will include developing asset management frameworks, superviseing improvements in how we manage the portfolio, and enabling better asset performance for the benefit of schools and other stakeholders.
The function provides opportunities to work both strategically and operationally and is key to ensuring alignment and integration across our business.

We are seeking for
An enabler who can establish key relationships and make connections across complex pieces of work and a range of stakeholders. You will be a strategic thinker and problem solver and be comfortable working in a change environment.
Ideally you have a tertiary qualification in property, finance, engineering, building science, operational policy or other significant disciplines, and/or the capability to demonstrate significant work practice in one or more of these fields.
You will also bring the following to the team:
   » An knowledge of strategic asset management and/or investment management
   » A strategic outlook with the intellectual capcapability to analyse large, complex issues to deliver new insights
   » An knowledge of New Zealand’s political, economic, cultural and social structures
   » Excellent, oral and written communications
   » Talent in building relationships and engaging with diverse stakeholders
