The purpose of developing an Arts Strategy for the Whakat?ne District is to: » Provide a cohesive and strategic direction for the arts sector and groups, creative activities, and events of the District to improve sustaincapability for the future. » Champion arts and culture for the District to celebrate our identity and enhance wellbeing and social results. » Work with Iwi/Hap? to foster cultural vitality and celebrate cultural heritage across the District. » Unlock the potential of the creative sector and arts organisations to grow the economy and provide opportunities for visitor practices following the effects of COVID-19. » Include opportunities for expression of diverse cultures and communities. » Inform future demand for facilities, events venues and activities. » Support arts organisations to deliver events and festivals with a sustainable and resilient approach and business mode » Improve the resilience of the sector by identifying funding opportunities, collaboration, and strategic opportunities. Background Whakat?ne District Council employed an Arts Development Coordinator Kaiwhakarite Whakawhanake Toi in January 2022 to coordinate and support the development of the Whakat?ne District Arts Strategy. Key to this function has been the gathering of information that will inform and support the Arts Strategy. Since her commencement, she has engaged with local artists, art groups, communities, reached out to local iwi and met with arts practitioners who whakapapa to the iwi in our District. With the prosperous securing of external funding from Creative New Zealand, we are now looking for an applicant to contract the writing of the Arts Strategy. The prosperous consultant will have a close working relationship with the Arts Development Coordinator to meet the project timeline and expected results of this project. The prosperous consultant will also be expected to present the Arts Strategy to the Executive agents, Elected Members, and members of the public.
