GOVERNANCE ADVISER
Are you practiced in Governance and ready to make a significant impact in the public sector?

Nelson City Council is seeking a dynamic professional to join its dedicated team to help shape the effective decision-making of elected members and support the future of its vibrant city.

About the Organisation: Nelson City Council is at the heart of decision-making for their beautiful city and region. As a Unitary Authority (one of only six in NZ), Nelson City Council is responsible for providing diverse municipal services, from setting policy to the operational delivery of key infrastructure, community facilities, a range of regulatory functions, and managing natural resources.
this function is unique, as Information technology operates inside the public arena, having diverse stakeholders with diverse needs and perspectives, from the elected representatives to the council staff, and the wider community. They are committed to ensuring transparent governance, and compliance within the delivery of local government processes and procedures, and that sound advice and communication are at the forefront of their governance and operations.
About the Job: Having a depth of proficiency in Governance issues, you will play a pivotal function in facilitating specialty governance/democracy services and engagement while working closely with a supportive, tight-knit team, multi-tasking across a range of tasks. Your primary tasks will include:
   » Providing essential support services to the Council and Committees to assist them in making informed decisions from preparing governance agendas, to taking minutes and operating technology in a Council meeting and working on governance projects.
   » Ensuring the efficient and effective communication and execution of local government protocols, procedures, controls, and practices.
   » Facilitating communication and collaboration among stakeholders.
   » Contributing to the democratic process within our community.
   » Exercising sound judgment, providing solid advice, demonstrating empathy, and possessing a customer service ethos.
What We're Looking For: To thrive in this function, you should possess:
   »knowledge of the process of supporting political people in a meeting environment .
   »practice in supporting a Council or Board: Ideally in a similar governance or democracy services function, preferably in a local government having supported a Board of Directors, Shareholder Council, or University Council.
   »Specialist knowledge and practice interpreting legislation (LGA, LGOI and Meeting Act), so you may have been in a support function in the legal sector.
   » The capacity for critical thinking, and resilience, and possess influencing expertise, good judgment, confident interpersonal and communication expertise, a strong work ethic, emotional intelligence, and political consciousness.
   » High proficiency in problem-solving, decision-making , multi-tasking,technology utilisation , time management, administrative expertise, and event coordination.
   » A tertiary degree in a significant field, such as law, or public policy, but above all else you will have proficiency, practice, and competency in a similar governance function.
   » A commitment to fostering collaboration and engaging with diverse stakeholders .
