Join the M?ori Health Workforce Development Unit (MHWDU) at the University of Otago and help make a positive impact on M?ori health and education.
We are a friendly and passionate team dedicated to increasing the number of M?ori in Aotearoa New Zealand’s health workforce. If you are enthusiastic about supporting M?ori students, advancing M?ori education and M?ori health results, we want to hear from you!
Te mahi – The function
As a Kai?rahi (adjunct Programme Coordinator), you will support the delivery of our T? Tauira Hauora programme. This programme is designed to foster the retention and achievement of M?ori students pursuing health sciences degrees at the University of Otago.
Your responsibilities will include providing tailored academic and wellbeing support, coordinating captivating professional/cultural development events and academic tutorials, and forging significant connections (whakawhanaungatanga) with/between M?ori students, university staff, and community groups.
Key tasks:
   » Identifying and assessing support needs of M?ori students within the Health Science Division’s degree programmes.
   » Identifying and recruiting skilled tutors/demonstrators to enhance student learning and development.
   » Tracking and monitoring the progress of M?ori students, ensuring accurate and up-to-date student records and data management.
   » Contributing to the planning, coordination, and prosperous implementation of hui, w?nanga and professional development opportunities for M?ori students.
   » Reporting on student progress to the MHWDU, providing valuable insights for program improvement and development.
   » Encouraging student participation and utilisation of services and programs offered by the M?ori Centre and other University staff.
Your valuable contributions will extend beyond day-to-day operations, as you will participate in monitoring, evaluating, and reporting on the T? Tauira Hauora programme. You will also have the opportunity to lend your skills to other exciting MHWDU programmes and collaborative team initiatives.

We are seeking for a positive, friendly, approachable person who can relate and build relationships with tertiary students, staff, M?ori communities and health workforce organisations.

   » demonstrated capability to work effectively across multiple projects.
   » excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
   » strong verbal and written communication, including report writing, skills.
   » practice planning and facilitating activities and events.
   » the capability to meet deadlines and complete tasks in a timely and professional manner.
   » competency in use of the Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel for report generation and analysis.
   » some flexibility for after-hours work (agreed in advance).
   » proficiency in te reo M?ori me ?n? tikanga is desired but not essential.
   » a tertiary qualification and demonstrated knowledge of the tertiary sector is desired but not essential.

This is a fixed-term position for one year. The function is available part-time 0.5 FTE (18.75 hours) minimum, to full-time (37.5 hours), negotiable.
Days and hours of work will be negotiated. Some after hours and weekend work will be required from time to time.
