Web Designer

The opportunity

We are seeking for a Front-End Web Developer who is motivated to combine the art of design with the art of programming. Responsibilities will include translation of the UI/UX design wireframes to actual code that will produce visual elements of the application. You will work with the UI/UX designer and bridge the gap between graphical design and technical implementation, taking an active function on both sides and defining how the application looks as well as how Information technology works.
We are on a bit of a journey and we want you to help guide and shape our team. Our websites will be the focus of significant investment over the next 5 years as well as a modernisation of our content management systems. We will be looking to you to build great relationships with stakeholders in the business, as well as in other teams managing our self-service channels, to support lifting the function and profile of the web development team within MSD.
Responsibilities
   » Develop new user-facing features with government accessibility & uscapability standards at the centre of your approach
   » Build reusable code and libraries for future use
   » Ensure the technical practiccapability of UI/UX designs
   » Optimize application for maximum speed and scalcapability
   » Assure that all user input is validated before submitting to back-end
   » Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders
   » Provide thought leadership abilities in the use of contemporary development techniques, tools, and artefacts
   » Assist project managers and business analysts to set up prosperous project definition documentation (costing, project plan, timelines, specifications, and reporting) and see the project through to a prosperous completion
   » Facilitate strong communication channels between the team and key Information technology and business contacts
   » Provide application support for agreed applications including after-hours support
expertise and Qualifications
   » Proficient knowledge of web mark-up, including HTML5, CSS3
   » Proficient knowledge of client-side scripting and JavaScript frameworks, including jQuery
   » Good knowledge of advanced JavaScript libraries and frameworks, particularly ReactJS
   » Good knowledge of asynchronous request handling, partial page updates, and AJAX
   » Basic knowledge of image authoring tools, to be able to crop, resize, or perform small adjustments on an image.
   » Proficient knowledge of cross-browser compatibility issues and ways to work around them.
   » Proficient knowledge of code versioning tools, such as Git and SVN
   » Good knowledge of SEO principles and ensuring that application will adhere to them.
   » Basic knowledge of Design Thinking
   » Some practice of using OpenText TeamSite & LiveSite, as well as Silverstripe and Drupal content management systems
The following expertise are also desirable but not essential:
 
   » practice with web content management systems
   » practice with web servers and application servers
   » Basic Unix/Linux admin commands and usage
   » SQL, Hibernate
   » LDAP
   » practice with Funnelback

expertise and Requirements:

   » A proven software engineering background.
   » Good written and verbal expertise; capability to articulate ideas and problem solve.
   » Able to work independently and/or as part of a team.
   » Excellent time management
   » capability to multitask and work in an Agile environment
